Lyanne Cafe : Behind the Scenes

This is specifically posted to ease the worries of a commentator that the people behind the development of Lyanne Cafe arent receiving enough credit, well, here goes.

This is Buno. He is in charge of watering the plants, feeding the fish and construction work.

This is Khalid. He is the brains and the mastermind of the development of Lyanne Cafe. Unlikely, I know.

Lastly, this is Ardiono. He is in charge of construction as well as shredding rubbish.
As of December 24, new employees have been hired so this post shall be repeated with new additions~

Day 2 6/23 and Day 3 7/23

Ahh isn't it incredibly satisfying to see your fruits of labor? While working on a post which introduces those involved in the Aquaponics Project, here is Day 2 and 3.

The growing shoots of the red onions.

I was unavailable during the afternoon when I normally take these pictures. Hence, I had no choice but to use photos I snapped in the morning for Day 3.

Day 1 4/23 Part 2

This post is a continuation of the previous post that depicts the beginning of the aquaponics project. Two words : Red onions. The following shows you how a red onion seed is made.

First, we purchased a small red onion. We did not buy the larger ones for they are too large for the seed trays.

Like the white onions, the opposite of the root must be again cut.

Make sure you can see the whites of the onion. You now have a red onion seed!
Careful not to cry!

Also like the white onion seeds, simply place the onion seeds into the growth medium. Repeat the process until all seed tray slots are filled with red onion seeds.

I have also planted red chilli's, chilli padi's and red okras today but unfortunately, there are no pictures to depict the processes though I'm sure the method to plant these seeds are universally well known.

Day 1 4/23 Part 1

On this day, the first stage of the aquaponics will commence. Without further ado, I placed growth medium into several seed trays. After making small openings in each slot in the seed trays, I placed the seeds I bought from various stores into the recess. The plants I will be using during the aquaponics project are red chilli's, chilli padi, red okras, chinese celery, brinjal and watermelons. These plants are watered twice at 6:40am and 5:00pm.

To the left is the seed tray used for the aquaponics project. Each seed tray contains 108 slots. Each slot is circle in shape and is relatively deep enough to insert a growth medium with adequate success.

To the left is the growth medium in a sack used for the aquaponics project. A bowl is used to scoop up the growth medium.

The growth medium is placed on the seed tray and then placed evenly into the slots of the seed tray. The excess is then placed back into the sack or put aside for later use.

The growth medium is placed inside the slots and is ready for the seeds. A small opening is made in each slot. This can be done with any small rod shaped object, anything from a drill bit to a tree branch.

White onion seeds are simply placed inside the slots. (To make white onion seeds, purchase a white onion. Separate the onions through their natural partitions, cut off the dangling part opposite of the root and you have a white onion seed)

The same is done for the second tray and the process of seed placing is completed.

Close up of the white onion seeds.
